CelebrityWatch Jay Pharoah Cover Justin Bieber's 'Where Are Ü Now'
Turns out the song has more lyrics than previously realized.
A new Comedy Central series called Goddamn Comedy Jam is fully delivering on the "jam" in its title, featuring stand-up sets paired with a live performance of the comic's favorite song. Jay Pharoah's performance has been released in a preview—and it's a genuinely rousing version of Justin Bieber's "Where Are Ü Now."
With a full back-up band, Pharoah does a cover that's actually pretty good, complete with the sleeveless shirt flexing we'd expect from a good Bieber cover. Even more impressive than Pharoah's voice, though, is his memorization of the words, most of which I had no idea were in the song. Did you know there are words in the song that aren't "Where are you now that I need you?" Shocking.
Pharoah also supplies some vocals for in the instrumental screeches. Which is funny on its own, but there's something about the screaming audience of women feverishly jumping up and down who seem obsessed with what's going on on stage that adds a whole other dimension.
It's been said that all comedians secretly want to be rock stars, and it looks like Jay Pharoah would make a pretty good one. As long as he leaves the instrumental to the electric violin.
