SuitsThe One Suit You Can Wear Now and Later
Every day of every month at GQ, we start your morning on Instagram with visual advice on What to Wear Today. But we want to go deeper. Give you the nuts and bolts of how to get the look into your wardrobe. Today we're walking you through Jason Bateman's season-spanning look here.
The concept of a year-round suit is sort of a myth. And, like no-iron shirts, they're not entirely necessary in the first place. That said, it does make sense to have some mid-weight wool suits in your wardrobe that bridge the gap between linen and flannel. Even better if they're a light gray color that feels at home at your last summer weddings as well as your first fall dinner parties. So, while it's pointless to attempt to wear one type of suit year-round, it's just common sense to have one you can wear during September's unpredictable swings in both weather and Saturday-night rituals.
In terms of styling, a white shirt and neutral tie will take you just about anywhere—and look minimalist and cool too. For one last nod to summer, and because it's still sunny as hell outside, we like the idea of finishing the look with a pair of refined aviators.
