The 12th Akwaaba Africa Travel Market (AfTM) hosted the maiden edition of Africa Travel and Tourism Conference with the objective of transferring knowledge covering travel, hospitality and aviation sectors from globally rated experts during the annual travel and tourism exhibition which holds on Lagos annually. Akwaaba Africa Travel Market which took place from the 30th Oct. to the 1st of November 2016 at the Eko Hotels & Suites Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria was a huge success, with the infusion of fashion in this year’s edition.
African Travel Market is the only international Travel Fair in West Africa, a population of 270 Million people with 15 Countries, numerous Airports and the largest number of Travellers in Africa. The event takes place in Lagos, Nigeria and held at the end of October each year. Over the years, Akwaaba Travel Market has grown to become the most important travel marketing platform in the region drawing attendance from over7,000 to 10,000 Visitors from 20 Countries. This Travel Fair not only boasts a large amount of visitors but also excels in the promotion of the exhibitors from the region’s leading hotels, airlines, travel agents, tour operators and similar industry suppliers who participates in the event.
For the first time, this event included fashion into it’s calendar and the platform credible enough to fit into this is the Ecowas Fashion Week. The average African youth is known for their vibrant and entrepreneurial spirit especially if in an enabling environment. Apart from the chrematistic gains of ECOWAS FASHION WEEK in the region, one other key benefit will be the entrepreneurial engagement of youths across the 15 countries. Fashion creatives in designing, manufacturing, makeup artistry, styling, media, PR, photography, and beauty segments are being brought on board. Awards and recognitions like “Lifetime Achievement Award” and The “ECOWAS Young Designer of the Year” are being given to designers who have contributed immeensely in the area of fashion and most outstanding upcoming designer respectively.
One critical benefit when Ecowas Fashion Week kicked off was putting Africa on the world map thereby attracting mainstream investors in the region. Last year edition was ECOWAS celebrating its 40th anniversary, and the beautiful Republic of Benin was selected to host the Fashion Week, this was to boost the tourism visibility of the country which is part of the objectives of Ecowas Fashion Week. The 40th Anniversary inauguration was be done by the Prime Minister of Benin Republic followed by a fashion exhibition and the event proper.
Part of the main event of the whole program is the wine-tasting. The event hall was saturated with sufficient cans and glasses of Funwine – FUN wine is a new beverage category manufactured from quality grapes in the EU, currently offered in attractive 250 ml slim cans. FUN WINE comes in many flavors, including: Red & White Sangria, Rose & White Moscato, Strawberry & Peach Moscato and The World’s First Coffee-Wine: Cabernet Coffee Espresso and Chardonnay Coffee Cappuccino – with no caffeine.
Ecowas Fashion Week 2016 featured only 5 selected designers who were as well honored with awards.
