MusicOutkast Is Working on New Music—at Least According to Gucci Mane’s Snapchat
Now we wait and hope this is actually happening.
The last time Outkast released a full-blown, legit-ass studio album, Twitter and Facebook hadn't been invented yet. Now, nearly 13 years since the release of Speakerboxx/The Love Below, we may finally have progress on new music from the Atlanta rap duo (and if history holds, some dope websites). And the news of potential new Outkast music comes from none other than Gucci Mane's Snapchat.
Just posted up on Labor Day, Guwop rattled off a list of artists he recently recorded with on his Snap. I doubt many people made it past the first second of this video, when Gucci plainly says, "I did a record for Outkast." What the hell does this mean, though? André 3000 and Big Boi certainly haven't left the music industry since going solo, though the two denied rumors of a full-blown reunion after the Outkast festival tour in 2014. The last time the duo released music together was in 2006, when they dropped the album-soundtrack hybrid Idlewild. (Idlewild is technically a studio album, but it felt mostly like a companion to the film of the same name.) Has Outkast been hiding away in some studio working on new stuff?
What we hope for now is that not only is Gucci telling the truth, but that this potentially spoiled surprise doesn't stop Outkast from recording. And hopefully Gucci gets a little better with his Snapchat teases. Instead of telling us how he worked with Outkast and Project Pat, we really wouldn't mind a picture from the recording studio.
