SportsIs… Is Tim Tebow… Actually Good at Baseball?
The results from his try-out are in, and apparently he's… actually good?
When Tim Tebow said he was going to try to make a go of it as a baseball player he was understandably mocked. After years and years of the seemingly endless Tim Tebow news cycle, people seemed unwilling to sign up for more. Well, it looks like we may not have a choice, because today at his workout for scouts and many major league teams, Tebow displayed some serious power:
In fact according to Josh Peter who was there for USA Today Sports, Tebow hit eight homers during batting practice. It left at least one scout feeling very good about Tebow's prospects, rating him highly on the scouting 20-80 scale:
But other aspects of the try-out disappointed. Here's a description, again from Peter:
He looked less impressive during live batting practice against former
major league relievers Chad Smith and David Aardsma. Smith's fastball
topped out at 92 mph, and Tebow put four of Smith's first 20 pitches
in play, cracking a line drive to center field that would have been
the only sure hit in the bunch. He also lined two balls to shortstop
and grounded to second base. One scout felt Tebow did display good bat
The bottom line is Tebow seems to at least grade-out as above average with some very high power potential. Not bad for someone who hasn't played organized baseball since 2004. This could be just the beginning of the Tim Tebow: Baseball saga.
