SuitsHow to Dress Down Your Fanciest Suit Jacket
It's a lot easier than you might think.
One of the virtues of owning a suit is that you can break it up and incorporate its components into completely new outfits. One of the pitfalls is that this isn't the easiest thing in the world to do: even the best-dressed guys can misstep when they try to wear suit jackets as blazers.
But Jamie Dornan hit all the right notes at the London premiere of his new movie Anthropoid. The actor chose an intensely shiny gray-blue jacket for the occasion, a garment that could easily make less stylish men look like low-rent televangelists. But because he paired it with a simple white t-shirt, gray trousers, and white Adidas sneakers—items that we're used to seeing him and other men wear pretty much every day—he managed to place the jacket in a context that everyone already understands. It doesn't hurt that he struck a tonal match between the jacket and the pants: these complementary shades of gray go together like peanut butter and jelly.
So the next time you want to flex in tailoring, keep in mind that color (and context) can make or break your look.
