This is the time we live in whether we like it or not.
Monday night marks the first general election presidential debate of this cycle and people are looking forward to it the way you look forward to getting medical tests back. Sure, if all goes well, it'll be a day of celebration, but if things go badly, you'll remember it as the day you learned you would die. Anyway, in the days leading up to the marquee match-up, the candidates worked the trail like normal. (Well, for one candidate it was like normal, but for the other "normal" is a relative term that involves inviting then uninviting the former mistress of your opponent's husband to the debate.)
While on the trail, a Hillary Clinton staffer named Victor Ng caught a photo of the candidate that feels like it perfectly captures a certain aspect of our society. Even though smartphones have been around for a while now, it still feels like this is the first election where a photo like this could happen.
And though many will look at this photo and roll their eyes about how people don't experience things in the moment anymore, I'd say that at least this kind of "sums up 2016" photo is better than the "sums up 2016" moments that occur at Trump rallies. Jordan Klepper knows what I'm talking about:
