MusicFrank Ocean Finally Played New Music On the Livestream
And that sure looks like a staircase, no?
Are you as exhausted as we are by Frank Ocean at this point? We know it's not fair that we as a society and fanbase put this much pressure and expectation onto an artist with one album to his name (as incredible as it was)—but here we are. After four years of near-nothingness, Frank Ocean launched a live stream a couple weeks back (at boysdontcry.co) that featured ominous sounds and a whole lot of woodworking. Then, just as we expected a new album, it all went quiet. We heard rumors that the album got pushed to November, forcing us, however begrudgingly, to curb our enthusiasm for new Frank Ocean music. Tonight, Frank re-entered his live stream warehouse. In the background, new music played. Frank's voice came in. Finally, we had new Frank Ocean music.
We know better than to assume this means the new album, Boys Don't Cry, will be on Apple Music (where it is an exclusive) tomorrow—and certainly not in a few hours. But we'll take what we can get and be grateful for it.At the end of the day, few other artists on the planet can command this kind of attention, and this kind of panicked action from the masses that leads them (us included) to flood to their phones and computer screens to tune in to watch a man build a staircase. What we mean is, thanks for the tunes, Frank. And it should come as no surprise that what we've heard so far is excellent. For the first time in four years, we feel relief, even if we never should have been anxious or demanding to begin with.
