Fall TrendsYour Denim Jacket Has Some Stylish Competition This Fall
Style super hero David Gandy in the aces denim alternative.
Jean jackets have long been the go-to of transitional weather, layer-worthy outerwear. But as versatile as the denim jacket is, there are moments when something more polished really comes in handy. Yesterday, at London Fashion Week personal style GOAT David Gandy made the case for this denim jacket alternative. Sometimes called a Harrington jacket or a Barracuda, it shares the same basic silhouette with its denim cousin. The main differences are material, pocket placement, and a zipper closure instead of buttons.
Gandy's opted for one in lightly-distressed caramel colored cotton but they look equally cool in crisp khaki, medium brown, herringbone tweed, or a variety of colors of wool (we say just keep it neutral). What makes this jacket just as easy to wear—and as flattering—as a denim iteration is its length. Because it ends right at your belt, you'll benefit from a visual cinching of the waist and lengthening of the legs. The large patch pockets give it a worker vibe perfect for off-setting a dressier shirt and tie or adding muscle to your favorite band tee. Gandy wore his with skinny jeans, Chelsea boots, and a denim button down. You'd be right to follow suit, but this same jacket would look just as killer over a pair of black jeans, black tee, and some Chucks. One thing you don't want to try is wearing this over matching khaki chinos. A New England tuxedo is not a thing—and for good reason.
