When it's your birthday, you make the rules.

In 2016, when the meaning of gender has never been more open to interpretation and the boundaries that once stood between men's and women's clothing are flimsier than chiffon, guys have the power to wear pretty much whatever they please.

This is not a power most hyper famous guys exercise all that often, especially not on highly photographed occasions. But to be fair, Young Thug is not most guys.

At a series of celebrations for his 25th birthday on Tuesday, the rapper—who this week is going by the name No, My Name Is Jeffery—wore a lace shirt and a stack of glittery gold and diamond necklaces and bracelets. Just one of these necklaces would have telegraphed wealth, but lumped together they could probably pay for a really nice house. And turning something as distinctly feminine as lace into a credible menswear look is something not all guys can pull off. It's a look that channels Michelle Obama, Iris Apfel, and Marc Jacobs' now-infamous 2012 Met Gala look all at once.

Is there a lesson to be learned here that troops on the ground can apply to their day-to-day look? Probably not. But one thing's for sure: there's no better time to pull off a swerve than your birthday—and when it's your birthday, you deserve to have just as much fun as you want to.
