The Fall Weekend Outfit That Always Looks Good

Fall TrendsThe Fall Weekend Outfit That Always Looks Good

Every day of every month at GQ, we start your morning on Instagram with visual advice on What to Wear Today. But we want to go deeper. Give you the nuts and bolts of how to get the look into your wardrobe. Today we're walking you through a classic fall-weekend outfit that'll never go out of style.

The first fall weekend when you can actually wear a sweater and a jacket at the same time (and still crave a hot coffee) is a great moment for your wardrobe too. Because, while trends come and go, the perfect outfit for that moment tends to stay exactly the same year after year. It's something like what Russell Wilson is wearing here. A pair of slim-cut cargo pants or cotton trousers, a good-looking sweater, and your favorite beat-up boots. Then you throw on a lightweight jacket—a wool shirt jacket or denim jacket both get the job done—and you're ready for a full day spent in the great outdoors (even if your version of the great outdoors is the concrete jungle).

Soon enough you'll need even more layers—and they'll have to really perform—so enjoy this brief and glorious moment when you can wear all your favorite things at once, and you don't have to cover them up with a big-ass coat.
