The only problem: Aaron Paul is not a magician.

Poor Aaron Paul. Back in 2006, the former Breaking Bad star was far from a household name and was certainly trying very hard to make his name in Hollywood, so he probably felt pretty lucky to land a role in the summer blockbuster Mission: Impossible III. Any excitement Paul had to be in the movie likely disappeared quickly however, as it sounds like he showed his ass pretty badly in front of franchise star Tom Cruise.

Paul explained how he embarrassed himself in front of the megastar to Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, and it involved magic. On the advice of a friend, Paul told director J.J. Abrams he was a big fan of magic in hopes of connecting with his director. Like an overeager parent, Abrams took this love of magic to mean that Paul himself was a magician. When Cruise walked on set, Abrams asked Paul to perform a trick for him. With no magic experience to speak of, Paul said he tried a child's card trick for Cruise, who immediately realized Paul had no clue what he was doing.

"[Cruise] just looks at me and he starts just laughing," Paul said. "And he grabs my shoulders and he does his charming Tom Cruise laugh and he made me feel good about myself."

Paul then said years later he blew his audition for Cloverfield when Abrams brought up the magic story right before he was supposed to perform. You know what probably would have helped? Tom Cruise grabbing his shoulders and laughing all the pain away.
