ShirtsRyan Gosling and Ethan Hawke Know Exactly How to Pull Off 202-Level Suits
Ryan Gosling and Ethan Hawke got all suited up for the Toronto International Film Festival last night, and used the same simple move to let the world know they are leading men with impeccable taste. Both guys reached for bolder than average tailoring; Gos in a navy polka-dot suit from Gucci, and Hawke in a reddish brown Rag & Bone number (he and his stylist Danielle Nachmai are big fans of the brand). Then, they both anchored their powerful suits with black lace-up shoes and a crisp white shirt, buttoned all the way up.
That’s a trick you can and should use in your own wardrobe: Buy an un-boring suit and keep it looking modern and cool with the air tie (a.k.a. a buttoned-up shirt that looks poised for a tie, but ultimately doesn’t have one). It’s so simple, and yet it works pretty much every time. You just need to resist the urge to unbutton the neck before you walk out the door. You’ll think it looks more “normal” to unbutton it, which is not untrue. But you’re better than “normal”. (If it helps, imagine a GQ editor smacking your hand away every time you reach for your collar.)
Here, some Gos and Hawke-inspired buys, should you be bored at work today with money to burn on looking great.
