MoviesMatthew McConaughey's Gold Now Has a Trailer
His latest Oscar bid is about—you guessed it—gold mines.
Matthew McConaughey, America's prize pony, is trotting around his new movie that is absolutely a bid for another Oscar, Gold. In it, McConaughey plays a failing businessman who goes to Borneo on a whim and ends up discovering a massive gold mine worth billions. Of course, this leads to chaos due to his wealth, others' jealousy, government involvement, and the fact that this is a big budget drama gunning for awards, damn it.
Already in the trailer we've got a lot of '80s fashion (check out Bryce Dallas Howard's hair!), a tiger, a fax machine, guns, gold, a McConaughey's share of yelping and whooping, champagne and, because this doesn't appear to be the most subtle of movies, a lot of gold clothing.
And you know this is meant to be Oscar bait because we've got all the markings: McConaughey gaining weight and looking generally unattractive, McConaughey punching a steering wheel, a lot of whisper acting, a scene of distress happening in pouring rain, and the line "a lot of powerful people are very angry." We're about due for a super McConaughey flick, though, and it looks like he's having a fun time. From the trailer it looks like it will at least be alright, alright, alright.
