MusicKid Cudi Feuds with Kanye West, Gets Shut Down Maybe
Is Kid Cudi and Kanye West's mini-feud already over or just getting started? We investigate.
Yesterday Kid Cudi delivered a Twitter rant that fell stylistically somewhere between Meek Mill and Kanye West about culture, talent, and being fake. It had everything you can expect from a rapper's Twitter rant:
1. Pure ego
2. Grand declarations
3. Ambiguous call-outs
5. Not-so-ambiguous call-outs
6. Gentle reminder that this is about music
This is not the first time that Cudi and Kanye have clashed. Cudi left Kanye's G.O.O.D. label in 2013, creating some bad vibes that they tried to move past working together on "Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1" and "Waves" on The Life of Pablo. Clearly something has changed since then.
As the phrase goes, if you play with fire, you're going to get burned, which is probably what Kid Cudi was looking for in the first place. Cudi's got an album coming out and his last was very poorly received. He's clearly struggling for relevancy and is trying to get it wherever he can, which is probably why he also called out Drake mostly out of nowhere.
Last night, Kanye responded, because of course he did, and I gotta say, if your cultural clout wasn't enough to give you the upper hand, delivering a speech from a suspended platform sure helps. Kanye expressed hurt and anger, saying:
You know how many people wish they could be signed to G.O.O.D. Music, get they life changed? Have that opportunity? Never forget that. I'm so hurt. I feel so disrespected. Kid Cudi, we're two black men in a racist world. I wore skinny jeans first. I got called names before you, bro. Why you got to come at me? This ain't the end of the Malcolm X movie. I'm out here fighting for y'all: creatives, artists, independent thinkers. Don’t never mention my name in a bad manner. None of y’all!
Yeezy's response could make this an open-and-shut case: a call-out and clapback that disappears into the ether. Or maybe Cudi will respond. Either way, it doesn't matter that Kanye got rid of his phone: if you call him out, he's gonna see it.
