Fall TrendsHow to Get This Year's Ultimate Emmys Power Look in Real Life
Embrace the power blazer
Famous men tend to look the same, more or less, at big-time formal functions like awards show. And a last night's Emmy awards, plenty of guys made sure their take on the trusted tuxedo was worthy of praise. And while there's certainly a template of what is appropriate to wear, we found that guys comfortably found ways to make the formalwear staple their own.
However a few brave men made a power move worthy of calling out, embracing the bold jacket as a way of drawing attention—the good kind—their way. Terrence Howard, in Isaia, wore a black-and-white checkered, shawl collar jacket stood out in a sea of black. Celebrity stylist Brad Goreski took his cue from Mark Ronson, maybe, and embraced velvet, a trend that's already gaining some serious traction in these parts. Again, because it was just the jacket, the royal purple velvet wasn't costume-y or tacky, but added just enough swagger to a red carpet formula we've seen ad nauseam at events such as this.
And then there was this legend, Caleb McLaughlin (center), who played Lucas Sinclair on Netflix's Stranger Things. Already making some serious sartorial moves, the young actor wore an embroidered floral-print jacket and killed it. We're expecting big things from this kid, both professionally and style-wise. Keep an eye out on him.
