SportsGood Video: David Ortiz Drives a Lyft Undercover in Boston
If Big Papi is planning for his retirement, he should consider World's Best Lyft Driver as an option.
David "Big Papi" Ortiz is having one of the best farewell tour seasons in any sport in recent memory. When Kobe went out he did it as a shell of himself. When Jeter went out he had a .617 OPS. As Papi is going out? Dude's an MVP candidate. (He probably won't and shouldn't win, but he is legitimately in the conversation.) So how is Papi celebrating his great final year as he prepares for the playoffs? By taking a shift as a Lyft driver in this delightful video. (Full disclosure: I drove a Lyft for six months once, passengers did not seem as friendly as they do in this video.)
Now overall, I'd say this is a great little piece. It has all you'd want from one of these things. One of the girls is going to a Red Sox game that night, which lets Papi say that he is too. It's super charming. My one criticism is it doesn't feel authentic to Boston. It's a video of people driving and yet never once did anyone get lost. Never once did anyone yell about how it's dumb that roads that are going north suddenly become roads that are going south for no real reason. So, next time, just make it more Boston.
