PhotosAustralian It Girl Talia Richman is an Instagram Model Who Can Do Both
She's a pro on both sides of the camera.
We spend a lot of time on Instagram (no, really—a lot of time), and when we're not living vicariously through our favorite FOMO-inducing accounts, we're checking on some particularly talented users. So when our GQ castings team finds a ’grammer worth shouting out, we think it's our duty to share him or her with you, dear followers. Up today, Australian born Talia Richman who now calls New York home (lucky us).
For Talia Richman Instagram and modeling go hand in hand. The green-eyed beauty is not only a pro on runways and photo shoots, she also works it self promotion. Plus, her work takes her to remote locales ripe with insanely beautiful sunsets, pools, beaches, and cityscapes which makes for more than a few arresting iPhone snaps. Richman is a true photographer, too, and while she prefers her Leica film camera, it's clear from her sharp focused feed that her visual talents translate to her phone just fine. She's mastered the art of a picture within a picture and has more than mastered the fine art of the selfie. Check her out below and let her convince you to click follow.
Where are you right now?
I am currently in bed in my apartment in New York, sipping a cup of chai tea.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in London and moved to Perth, Australia where I grew up until I was eight before moving to Brisbane, Australia.
If you weren’t a model, what career would you pursue?
If I wasn’t a model I would probably pursue a career in criminal investigation, or psychology. I’m fascinated with how people think and behave, and I enjoy piecing things together to get to the bottom of something. I also watch a copious amount of crime shows… it’s a tad concerning 😉
What is your mantra? (If you don't have one, make one up. We'll wait.)
What makes you feel sexy?
A swaggy new outfit, killing my workout, matching underwear and when my skin is fresh and glowing post face mask.
Where have you never been but want to go?
There are so many beautiful and amazing places I would love to go to in Africa. My parents went on a safari there for their honeymoon and I would love to do that too.
Do you read the comments?
Of course, they’re pretty entertaining. For example, someone told me the other day the only good thing about me was that the word ‘rich’ is in my name! I don’t let these negative comments phase me. The majority of the time the comments are positive and so it’s very encouraging, I appreciate all the love and support immensely!
What is the craziest thing you’ve done on a shoot?
Two particularly crazy experiences would be when I was dressed up like a legitimate creepy clown (teased hair to the absolute extreme, painted white face and smeared red lipstick) then instructed to act 'evil and possessed' during a fashion show. Also, on a swimwear shoot at 5am for a magazine that required me to jump in and out of the water. It was mid-Winter in Sydney (yes, it does sometimes get very cold there in winter!) and they told me the pool had been heating for 3 days… Of course, to my pleasant surprise it had not been heating that whole time. They still made me jump in and out and in between shots I was running to the sauna to warm up.
How do you spend your time off?
I love being active, exploring and trying new things. I spend my time off taking photos with my Leica film camera, Citi biking around the city, going on long walks in central park and along the river and going to brunch at cute cafes with friends.
What is your most prized possession?
I have two very important possessions that I wear every single day and don’t go anywhere without. Firstly, my Saint Christopher necklace, given to me by my grandparents, it means ‘the Saint of good travels’, and secondly, my Nana’s engagement ring which she gave to me when she passed away so it is very sentimental and close to my heart.
